Celebrate World Ocean Day 2022 with Hurawalhi
Anyone who has dived or snorkelled with us will know what a magical place the ocean it is – the reefs abundant with marine life, including mega fauna such as sharks and rays, never fail to impress. The ocean covers 70% of the Earth’s surface and we have a lot to thank it for – it regulates the climate, produces more than 50% of the oxygen we breathe and stores 50 times more carbon dioxide than the atmosphere, it provides food and ingredients for many medicines too. World Oceans Day is marked on 8th June each year and seeks to highlight the oceans’ importance and the need to protect it and, in collaboration with Manta Trust, our resort team, marine biologist and Prodivers have curated a fantastic program of events to celebrate this special day at Hurawalhi.

Ocean Bingo
Location: Dive Centre
Time: 2:30pm
World Ocean Day is all about celebrating the seas – and what better way to do it than to jump right in? Grab your fins, mask and snorkel and join us at the dive centre for an in-water game of ocean bingo. Don’t worry – no prior knowledge is needed, just a willingness to get wet and an eye for spotting marine life! We’re aiming for a full house on the house reef, and the first to shout “bingo!” will win a fantastic prize with prizes for the runners-up too!
This is a complimentary activity – come and have some fun!
Celebrating Our Blue Planet
Location: Coco Bar
Time: 9pm
World Ocean Day 2022 will wrap up with a short film, followed by a talk and discussion with our resident marine biologist. The Maldives is a unique nation, being 99% sea and less than 1% land. Our waters are incredibly diverse: more species of fish are found here than there are islands! Come together to celebrate the azure waters surrounding us, and those further afield, in our final event of the day. One Ocean, One Climate, One Future – Together!
See you in the bar!
