World Oceans Day Celebrations
The Maldives is a unique nation, being 99% ocean and less than 1% land and with waters incredibly diverse: more species of fish are found here than there are islands! With such an ocean-dominated geography, it’s only to be expected that every day at Hurawalhi Maldives is worthy of a celebration in honour of the ocean but on World Oceans Day we had some extra special events which were enjoyed by our guests and team alike. The ocean takes center stage during any holiday in the Maldives, it’s endless shades of blue form the back drops to countless social media posts of stunning photos and for water babies, it’s the ultimate playground with world-class snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities as well as watersports galore.
On 8th June, we kicked off the celebrations with breakfast under the sea at our spectacular 5.8 Undersea Restaurant, joined by our resident marine biologists. Guests who took the opportunity to dine with us were able to discuss all things ocean related including our remarkable reefs, life in the seagrass meadows and the future of our oceans. Snorkellers jumped in for action on the house reef in the form of a fun game of Ocean Bingo, where there was lots of excitement in the race to shout ‘BINGO!’ first. The day was wrapped up with a short film, followed by a talk and discussion with our resident marine biologists.
Thank you to all who joined us for World Oceans Day, we hope you had as much fun as we did! In line with the goal of this year’s event, a fresh surge of enthusiasm for the ocean was definitely felt and with the global community coming together to raise awareness on this day, it seems that the ‘Tides Are indeed Changing’ for our oceans. If all of this talk of warm sparkling oceans makes you want to jump in for some adventures of your own, check out the Hurawalhi special offers and you could be celebrating with some ocean time soon!
