World Environment Day Celebrates Biodiversity
World Environment Day is celebrated on every year on 5th June and the theme for 2020 is ‘Biodiversity’ – something the Maldives does extremely well! The Maldives is world-renowned for its coral reefs, which are among the most important ecosystems on the planet – their biological diversity is so rich that they are often compared to rainforests; currents, abundant sun and clear water provide aquarium-like conditions for over 2,000 species.
Anyone who embarks upon a snorkelling or diving adventure while at Hurawalhi Maldives is in for an experience of a lifetime with creatures of every shape and size imaginable, from tiny colourful nudibranches to huge napoleon wrasse, from delicate butterfly fish to sleek sharks, and let’s not forget the turtles and rays! Led by a resident marine biologist and run in close cooperation with Prodivers Maldives, Hurawalhi Marine Biology Center is there to share our passion for the ocean with you, and to further study the unique marine environment of which Hurawalhi is a part.
At Hurawalhi we are conscious of how important yet fragile our surrounding environment is and with that always in our mind we endeavour to tread lightly and help protect the wonders of nature for future generations.
