‘5.8’ undersea restaurant is in place
The Maldives’ resorts are no strangers to fascinating luxuries. With the largest undersea restaurant in the world, Hurawalhi Maldives Resort certainly stands head and shoulders above the rest. Named 5.8, which signifies the depth, the restaurant started its journey from New Zealand traveling safely to Hurawalhi in the Lhaviyani Atoll. The undersea restaurant was put in place by the ingenious Fitzroy Engineering and M J Murphy Ltd who have helped make Hurawalhi’s unique, state-of-the-art dining venue come to life.
The restaurant was delivered to its final destination by a heavy-lift ship, capable of lifting its 400 ton mass, and lowered onto concrete platforms 5.8 meters below the water surface. Through the restaurant’s acrylic arches and the large panoramic windows, diners will enjoy unparalleled sights of the crystalline water, and of course the stunning Maldives coral reefs, while enjoying a showcase of innovative modern cuisine, paired with an extensive selection of wines.
Take a look at how 5.8 was lowered to its final destination and the dream of giving guests a truly memorable experience of dining under the water took one big step forward.
