Sustainable Sea Turtle Encounters
The reefs and lagoons of Lhaviyani Atoll are renowned sea turtle hotspots with an astounding 553 individuals having been identified. The largest community of green sea turtles in the Maldives resides close to Hurawalhi Maldives and accessible to our snorkellers and scuba divers who can go out with our marine biologists to learn more about these fascinating creatures. 19 individual turtles have been identified just on the reefs of Hurawalhi so despite being endangered worldwide, you have a very good chance of encountering them during your stay with us.
We are incredibly fortunate to have a thriving population of sea turtles on our doorstep and it’s vital that we do all we can to protect them and ensure our encounters are sustainable. The Olive Ridley Project have produced a Code of Conduct that we all have a duty to abide by, this will ensure the turtles do not feel threatened and will continue to be at home on the reefs of Hurawalhi. Your encounters will be more magical from a respectful distance, the turtle will hang around for longer and you get to observe their natural behaviour.
During your stay with us at Hurawalhi you will have the opportunity to meet the turtles during Turtle Snorkelling and the Turtle Tour by Boat. The usual day-to-day snorkelling and scuba diving will of course also involve turtle encounters! All can be arranged prior to your arrival by using the Hurawalhi App.
