Manta Rays Are Back at Hurawalhi!
It is with great excitement that we announce that manta rays have again been making regular appearances in the surroundings of Hurawalhi Maldives!
Throughout this past week, mantas have been sighted both on the manta cleaning station, where our divers could admire them, as well as feeding at the surface in the same area, giving our snorkellers a chance to swim with them too.
There were four individuals at the cleaning station on Friday: three familiar juvenile males, Burberry, Merry and Desert Rose, plus Hurawalhi guests were treated to a surprise visit from Tornado; Tornado is a juvenile female that had never been observed in Lhaviyani Atoll before. She travelled several hundred miles up from the southern atolls Laamu and Meemu to get a taste of the plankton soup here in the north.
Good news seems to travel fast also in the mantas’ world. If you fancy the idea of swimming with the gracious mantas yourself, now is the best time to do it!
But before you do, be sure to take a few minutes to watch this educational video guide to sustainable manta interactions.
