Hurawalhi’s Incredible House Reef
Beauty and convenience go hand in hand at Hurawalhi and the resort’s house reef is no exception. The private island on which Hurawalhi is built lies atop a coral reef and its prettiest parts are easily accessible. In other words, the Maldives’ stunning underwater world you can admire either through snorkelling or diving, is on your doorstep.
A sheltered, shallow house reef so close to the beach is not something all resorts in the Maldives are endowed with, making Hurawalhi an excellent option if you see yourself simply donning a mask, a snorkel and a pair of fins and going to the house reef whenever you feel like it.
You will even receive your snorkelling equipment free of charge for the duration of your holiday to encourage you to make the most of having such a vibrant (and warm!) ocean so close to your villa.
Similarly, our divers love the ease of taking a Discover Scuba Diving session – we gear up at the dive center, take a few steps on the powdery sand to the lagoon and are at the first coral blocks a few fin kicks later!
Lhaviyani Atoll is full of snorkel and dive sites where you can admire marine life that doesn’t reside on Hurawalhi’s house reef and you can hop on a guided excursion to get to these underwater islands, the ‘Turtle Airport’ and reefs with more big fish action, though if you only have a couple of days at the resort, the house reef will indeed allow you experience the Maldives’ sea life in a nutshell. We take pride in having a small resident population of hawksbill turtles, you can expect to see parrot fish, clown fish, puffer fish, lobsters, with a bit of luck but often also mobula rays and manta rays!
Speak with our Island Hosts or the dive center team about where you can safely enter and exit the house reef, ask for guidelines on snorkelling from your villa, or sign up for a guided tour of the reef for added reassurance in the water and for you to see the very best spots.
If you are not a water baby and prefer to get a glimpse of the reef through glass, we’ve got that covered too – you can book a Private Champagne Breakfast, lunch or dinner at 5.8 Undersea Restaurant to couple a luscious meal with views of an incredible coral reef (see how the reef outside the restaurant is in bloom here!)
