Earth Day, Every Day at Hurawalhi
Earth Day is celebrated around the world on 22nd April with the aim of raising awareness of the need to restore Planet Earth.
At Hurawalhi Maldives we place the environment and sustainability at the very heart of our resort, we provide luxury that treads lightly on the environment each and every day of the year. Aside from our solar panels that contribute to the electricity needed to power the resort, our water bottling plant providing all the drinking water we need, and our ‘say no to plastic’ policy, we are particularly proud of our wonderful organic garden. Our housekeeping team nurture a wide range of fruit and vegetables with the help of our composting machine providing the nutrients needed for the plants to flourish while at the same time reducing waste going to landfill. Executive Chef, Eric Henri Drogueux, then uses our homegrown produce to create exquisite dishes enjoyed by our residents. It’s a small undertaking in the bigger picture of what needs to be done to restore our planet to a sustainable level that will allow it to be preserved for future generations but, if everyone takes small steps, they will lead to a big change.
Many people are already taking steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle but more is needed so why not mark Earth Day with a pledge to take extra steps for a positive change for the environment? Join Hurawalhi and plant your own seeds – even herbs at your window, buy fruit and vegetables from local producers to reduce the carbon footprint of transport costs and pollution while at the same time supporting local businesses and compost your kitchen scraps to nourish your homegrown produce.
In celebration of Earth Day this year, Hurawalhi will be planting 60 trees, and hosting a presentation about Earth and the Environment by our Marine Biology team. Guests will also enjoy a special turndown amenity along with an information card in their villas.
